What is Perineal Massage and is it going to work?

For all the pregnant ladies out there must heard of perineal massage and you're probably wondering what is it? How is it going to help me?

Perineal massage is expected to help to loosen the muscles between your vagina and your bottom (perineum) during pregnancy, to prepare your skin for giving birth. This will help the opening of your vagina to stretch as your baby coming to the world.

If you've never given birth vaginally before, massaging your perineum towards the end of your pregnancy can reduce your risk of episiotomy. It may also reduce your risk of having a tear. Even if you have had a baby before, perineal massage can help to reduce discomfort after the birth.

Regular massage from 34th week of pregnancy, into the soft tissue region between the vagina and the anus, this is also known as the Perineum will help increase blood flow and elasticity, and assist in the prevention of avulsion/tearing of perineum during delivery.

MESSINA Ms. Care Perineal Massage Oil is 100% made of natural essential oils.

It's an Australian Made and Owned product, eco-friendly. Free from synthetic preservatives, fragrances, colourants. All the premium selected ingredients are mild and harmless, definitely suitable for all skin types.

There are 2 key ingredients that makes the impact:

100% Organic Sweet Almond Oil:

100% organic Sweet Almond Oil is very skin-friendly and ideal for sensitive, rough and dry skin. It contains vitamins A & E that help reduce wrinkles, fine lines, sagging skin, and age spots. When applied regularly, it tightens the skin and delay the signs of aging.

Australian Wheat Germ Oil:

Wheat Germ Oil delivers a healthy infusion of vitamin A, vitamin D, B vitamins, antioxidants and fatty acids. These nutrients not only moisturize and heal dry or cracked skin, they also help prevent scarring. It's a rich source of vitamin E, which helps reduce skin damage, fight free radicals.

Then it comes to HOW TO perform this massage. Many ladies might wonder or scared to do this especially when you're carrying a life inside of you. Perineal massage should focus on the inside of your vagina, though you may still feel the skin on the outside stretching. Here's how to do it:

- Apply the massage oil to external labia and areas between the vagina and the anus.

- Press the perinaeum area with fingertips and external perinaeum area in a circular motion.

- Press slightly and then increase pressure along the imaginary dial.

- Insert the thumb into the vagina deeply. While doing this, exhale and stretch the tissue down towards the anus.

- Repeat the above actions regularly, and you should feel a slight pull with no pain. Use it 3 to 4 times weekly for 5 to 40 minutes.

With its unique Amino Plant blend formula this will also help to relax and increase vaginal flexibility and restore firmness and elasticity of pudenda muscle. This can also help maintain the tightness of the vagina.

The important thing is to find a routine that works for you, make you feel the most comfortable and stick to it. Perineal massage shouldn't hurt, though it may feel a bit uncomfortable, particularly at first. After you've been doing perineal massage for a few weeks, you may notice the skin and muscles around your vaginal opening becoming looser. This is a great sign that the massage is working.

Massaging your perineum isn't the only way to prepare your body for giving birth but it's definitely been on the block for long time. You may be keen to try this right now but we do suggest you to consult with your doctor first to find out if this method works for you.

Besides, we also recommend you keep doing perineal massage even without being pregnant, as you know that it can restore firmness and elasticity of pudenda muscle. We suggest you do 2 times a week, but do not perform the massage immediately after a meal or 3 days before menstruation arrives.
